Bettona

Bettona, known as 'The Etruscan Fort on the left bank of the Tiber', provides a stunning view over the valley of Spoleto. The history of Bettona started centuries ago.  On the outskirts of Bettona is an Etruscan Tomb dating from 200 BC. The medieval town nestles within walls that include traces of the original Etruscan stonework. Inside this protected enclave, it's as though time has stood still. There are no modern buildings (modern, in this case, meaning post 1600). In the Piazza Cavour you will find the entrance to the town museum which includes the 'Pinaciteca' where the works of Andrea della Robbia, Tiberio d'Assisi, Dosso Dossi, Fiorenzo di Lorenzo and Il Perugino are displayed. There is a new archeological exhibit which extends under the piazza.

Wines

Since Etruscan times, the Bettonese have grown olives and grapes on the hillsides that surround the town. The grapes produce the well known white and red wines of the D.O.C. Colli Martani.

Golf

Near Perugia there are three golf clubs of note. more >>
